Domino’s pizza tracker a hit with two noobies

  • Posted: September 05, 2008  Topics: Internet

A few months back I wrote about my online ordering experience with Pizza Hut and how pleased I was with the entire process. Well, I figured it was time to give one of the other pizza big boys a shot. This time around it was Domino's.

Once again, I thought the entire online ordering experience was a snap. I might even go as far to say that Domino's did a better job at upselling me on things such as breadsticks or Cinna Stix. Not that I needed any extra convincing to order the Cinna Stix.

The one downside to ordering from Domino's was that I had trouble finding how to move from one screen to another. Luckily I once read a Where's the Next Button? blog post by a good friend of mine, Douglas Karr which enabled me to find the teeny, tiny Next link.

But the highlight of the entire online ordering experience from Domino's has to be their Pizza Tracker (see below).

The Pizza Tracker kicks in right after you place your order and walks you through the pizza making process by highlighting where your pizza is using the 5 simple stages below:

  1. Order placed
  2. Prep
  3. Bake
  4. Box
  5. Delivery

The Pizza Tracker even goes as far as to tell you the name of the person preparing your pizza and putting it in the oven.

While I thought this was pretty cool, my two kids (noobies by age) thought the Pizza Tracker was fantastic. While waiting for the pizza, they just couldn't resist running back to my computer every few minutes to see what stage our pizza was in. At one point, my 5 year old came running out of my office screaming "It moved to delivery, it moved to delivery!"

Gimmicky? Yes. But I bought it and so did my two kids. So why not provide a little entertainment and something to keep us occupied while waiting for our pizza?

By the way, the Cinna Stix were delicious.
