Computer sleeping on the job causes Internet connection problem
Q: When my HP home computer is left on for any length of time I am unable to connect to the Internet without restarting. My computer is running Windows Vista. Is this a computer or network (AT&T U-verse) problem? - Margaret from Indianapolis
A: Margaret, I am glad you mentioned that your computer is an HP computer. That coupled with the fact that you said it happens after your computer is left on for a length of time makes me think it is probably related to the power settings (or sleep mode) on your computer.
I would start with disabling the sleep option on your computer to see if the problem goes away. Since your computer is running Windows Vista you can follow the instructions to do so on this web page.
Note: For those of you not running Windows Vista you can always do a Google search for "windows xp power options" or "windows 7 power options" to find a similar link.
If disabling sleep mode doesn't work the next step would be to call AT&T.
Follow-up: I heard back from Margaret after helping her with this problem and she told me that turning off sleep mode solved the problem.
