Choosing the right project type when burning audio CDs
Q: I have some audio files in .wav format that I want to put on a CD so I can listen to them on my home stereo. I tried burning a data CD using my computer but it doesn’t work. What am I doing wrong?
The good news is that you were very close to getting this one right so pat yourself on the back for that one.
The problem is that you chose a data CD project instead of an audio CD project. Although the songs on CDs are based on the .wav format, it is imperative to burn them to CD in the audio format in order to play them in the CD player that is part of your home stereo.
Selecting a data CD project will physically copy the files to the CD but they won’t necessarily be in the correct format for your CD player.
That being said, many of today’s CD and even DVD players have digital music decoders built-in that allow you to play digital music files on a data CD. But if you want truly universal compatibility with most CD players, you should definitely choose an audio CD project the next time you go to burn a CD.
