Please allow me to take a tiny break from technology to share with you a video that was sent to me by a good friend of mine earlier this week. Readers of my blog have long followed my ups and downs with Best Buy. Apparently it's time for another downswing. I may be old school but I've always thought the idea behind a business was to wow your customers. Go above and beyond or get lumped in with everyone else. Which is why I am dumbfounded at a recent call I received from Best Buy explaining some changes to the Best Buy Reward Zone program. Last week I demonstrated a handful of consumer electronics to a local group of people in Indianapolis. I talked about the good and the bad for each one with the goal of letting each audience member decide whether to love or leave the technology. I concluded by opening up the floor for a general Q & A session. The Q & A quickly turned to a discussion about what the nectarines Twitter and Facebook are. I've had my ups and downs with the Jott service but I still continue to use it because it's just so darn handy when I need to remind myself of something when I'm away from my office. But when I get jotts like this one, I question my continued use of their service. Here's what I said: "39 dollars and 75 cents on the Discover card at Speedway on June 25th" I jotted this because I had just filled up the car with gas and didn't get a receipt. I was driving down the road today and noticed this sign in front of a church:
Two emotions hit me immediately. The first was to think how cool it was that the church was embracing technology and encouraging younger generations to pray using the communication method most familiar to them. This emotion was followed by one of disappointment as I pictured hoards of teenagers skipping Sunday mass because they already texted their prayers into the church.
