Be quiet… your web site is talking to you
I recently came across a promotion from SitePal that allows you to put a talking, animated person on your web site. The person’s look can be completely customized from male to female, from brown hair to black hair, from blue eyes to green eyes. You can even make their eyes follow the mouse as it moves around the screen and react accordingly. My first thought was that this would be perfect for noobies. Imagine a talking character right on a web site walking you through, step by step, on how to sign up for your mailing list. Or walking you through uploading your digital pictures to a photo sharing web site.
Then I remembered a comment my father made a few weeks ago. He mentioned that a web site he uses frequently drives him crazy because it starts playing music every time he visits the page. So I ask you… would you see a talking, animated person on a web site as more of a benefit or an annoyance?

One of the great features of SitePal is that it allows you to control the audio of your talking character, users can easily program the settings of their characters to only speak when the users press a play button.
