Are two monitors better than one?

There are still people that think Twitter is only good for telling people what you had for breakfast. And while I may be interested in sharing my new favorite bagel flavor, I definitely have found uses for Twitter far beyond breakfast and bagels.

For example, recently I was debating whether to purchase one large 27" monitor for my new computer or dual 23" monitors. I decided to throw the debate out to my Twitter followers by posting this tweet:

Question: Would you rather have one 27" monitor or two (dual) 23" monitors?

I was overwhelmed with the near-instant feedback I received. Here's just a sampling:

  • sacherjj @mrnoobie Hands down, dual 23's. It is great to be able to seperate work on multiple monitors. Rotating one vertical is great for coding.

  • asudduth @mrnoobie Good question. Dual 22's are good, but I Think I good handle dual 24's.

  • iamfiction @mrnoobie A 27" monitor would be as big as my TV! That would be very weird.

  • Suggestive @mrnoobie My boyfriend has dual monitors and I really like the setup so I vote for that!

  • ahow628 @mrnoobie Dual 23" for sure. If I could afford it, I would have a 27" flanked by two 23".

  • asudduth @mrnoobie depends on task. have a single 24" one place, dual 22"s another, and quad 20"s at my office desk. a lot of times more is better

  • gregorycross @mrnoobie definitely 2 - 23 inch monitors

  • MichaelManna @mrnoobie 2 23" are nice, but that iMac is awesome.

  • jim_brown @mrnoobie Two 23's is a LOT of screen space. I tried it and it was too much. Went back to dual 19's. So, if I had to choose, I'd say 1 27.

  • pauldandrea @mrnoobie two 23"s

  • IndyCouponDeals @mrnoobie 2 23s

  • JHass @mrnoobie Are you serious? Dual!

Still think Twitter is just for sharing breakfast favorites? Here's a picture of my new desktop setup, thanks in large to the feedback above.

  • You gotta love dual monitors!  I have dual 19” Widescreens at work, and love having two monitors. Great for having two things up while working.  Like having a spreadsheet and microsoft money open at the same time, or having photoshop and stock image website open at the same time. I love it!

I just bought a second monitor for my home office a nice 24” widescreen LCD - to pair with my old clunky 19” LCD.  Can’t wait til it comes in!

By the way, i did the same thing - asked on twitter for suggestions.. dual or BIG monitor?

  • @Peter - Now that I’ve had dual monitors for a few weeks, I don’t think I could ever go back to a single monitor, no matter how big it is!
