I often wonder how many times noobies struggle with something on their computer never knowing a simple solution is available right at their fingertips. Take for instance something as routine as the double-click action on the mouse. Today I watched a client repeatedly struggle to double-click her mouse. The problem was that her two clicks were too far apart from one another. So instead of the computer recognizing a double-click, it instead recognized the action as two separate clicks. Every so often I receive an email from one of my subscribers telling me I send too much email or send it too frequently. These are usually coupled with emails from other subscribers telling me how much they enjoy Noobie's email and how much they learn from it. While it's impossible to please everyone and not prudent to make company-wide changes based on the feedback of one or two people, it did occur to me that it might not hurt to ask all of my subscribers what they think. I stumbled across something funny today that I just can't resist blogging about. I was helping a client set up a new user account on her computer. We agreed to password protect the new user account so I clicked the link to create a password for the user. That's when this sentence on the screen caught my eye: To avoid losing data in the future, ask [user] to make a password reset floppy disk. A floppy disk? This screen appears in Windows 7.
