Last week I wrote about a tough decision my client faced between spending money repairing a dying laptop and buying a brand new laptop. I included a voting poll and asked you to vote on which decision you would have made. I witnessed something amazing today. On a recent visit with my parents, my mom realized one minute before the Olympics kicked off in prime-time that one of her regularly recorded shows was going to prevent the Olympics from recording on TiVo (it's a single tuner TiVo) that night. Without missing a beat, my mom grabbed the TiVo remote control, brought up the menu, browsed by channel, found the Olympics, hit record, acknowledged that it would be ok to cancel her reguarly recorded show, hit the menu again, browsed to another channel, found a later, repeat showing of her reguarly recorded…

Today's blog post really has nothing to do with technology. I just feel compelled to write about it. Yesterday I attended a father/son breakfast at my church with my two sons. It's funny how many gadgets I work with every day have a default feature that makes people think the product is junk. Case in point. A client recently hired me to go through her "list" of stuff she need to learn on her laptop. First on her list was why her screen was so dark some times and other times perfectly bright. I quickly explained to my client that it was because her laptop had power management features that kicked in when she unplugged her laptop and ran solely on battery power.
