Earlier this week I wrote about my love/hate relationship with DIRECTV. Actually, mostly my hate relationship. But I promised myself I would return to the topic to discuss the love relationship. So in this blog post, I will concentrate only on what I like about my new DIRECTV setup. Before I begin, however, I have to stay that my opinion of TiVo being the hands-down best DVR on the market has not changed. But that doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement. Specifically, here is a short list of features that I now have with DIRECTV that I didn't have…

When I heard it was possible to donate $10 to the Haiti earthquake relief efforts by simply sending a text message from my mobile phone, I thought it was pretty cool (good cause aside). When I read that the Red Cross has received more than $3 million through this effort as of 9 a.m. EST, I was blown away. Yet another great use of texting I hadn't thought of. Easy as pie If you want to see how easy it is and provide your own helping hand, here's all you need to do: From your mobile phone, text the word…

Here is this week's roundup of Twitter highlights posted from my Twitter account: new TWTR.Widget({ version: 2, type: 'profile', rpp: 4, interval: 6000, width: 250, height: 300, theme: { shell: { background: '#333333', color: '#ffffff' }, tweets: { background: '#000000', color: '#ffffff', links: '#4aed05' } }, features: { scrollbar: false, loop: false, live: false, hashtags: true, timestamp: true, avatars: false, behavior: 'all' } }).render().setUser('mrnoobie').start(); Less lash loss. I have a love/hate relationship with DIRECTV. I'll post about the love later this week but I simply can't resist starting with the hate. Many of you know I recently re-subscribed to DIRECTV. Rather than bore you with a long, drawn out story of the signup experience (which was awful), let me just sum it up as easy as I can. What I wanted / what they advertised Choice Xtra Package, $34.99/month for 12 Months Free HD DVR (included as part of promotion) 3 Months Free Starz and Showtime (included as part of promotion) Additional HD DVR (not included but…

Today's post is a guest post from a good friend of mine, Nate Hines. Nate had a pretty interesting experience with his dentist taking advantage of new technology and asked me if my readers might enjoy hearing his story. If you still think texting is just for teenagers and twenty-somethings, read on. On my way to lunch the other day, I received a text message from my dentist's office, Hiple Family Dentistry, that read something like this: Dr. Hiple offers free text reminders for your appointments. To subscribe to this free service, reply with 'Y' or 'N'. I'll admit, I…
