I've had my Flip Video Ultra camcorder for a while now. It's been one of the handiest and most portable video recorders I've ever used. And it couldn't get much easier to use. Press big red button to start recording. Press big red button to stop recording. But alas, it's time for me to retire my Flip Video. There's a new sherriff in town and his name is the Flip Video Ultra HD. And mine should arrive next Tuesday. I decided to upgrade mainly because of the Ultra HD's high definition capability. I do a lot of video shooting that… Continue reading...

Every once in a while a client will call me with some strange, quirky tech-related behavior that they can't seem to make go away. Today was one such day. A client of mine called me and told me his iPhone was no longer showing up in iTunes when he connected it to his computer via the USB cable. I immediately jumped into full analysis mode. Last night I finally got around to seeing Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I've read all seven Harry Potter books so I always look forward to seeing how each new movie plays out. I especially love watching all of the whimsical things Harry Potter and the other wizards can do. Like mixing up love potions and casting curses and spells on others. But last night I realized something I hadn't realized up until this movie. Harry Potter could really use a Gmail account. Send me an owl You see, wizards communicate through owls. Yes, that's right, owls. They write… Continue reading...

When my kids play with their Nintendo DS, I'm convinced not even an earthquake could get their attention. Often I find myself repeating myself over and over until I finally demand they pause or turn off their games to listen to me. And even this is not a simple task. I can't possibly be the only parent who experiences this. So here's a technology I'd like to see (TILTS) that should solve the problem. I would like to see a video game remote kill switch. It would work something like this. When I first buy the switch I would syncrhonize… Continue reading...
