Amazon.com knows a lot about me. They know what kind of books I like to read, what genres I buy the most and who my favorite authors are. They also know what brand of digital cameras, camcorders and computers I buy the most. But would you be surprised if I told you that Amazon.com knows when my electric toothbrush needs a new replacement head? Don't be. Earlier this week, two Sonicare replacement brush heads showed up on my front doorstep courtesy of Amazon.com and UPS. Perfect timing. My current brush head was starting to look pretty worn. Today I learned that you can teach an old techie new tricks. My 7-year-old son asked me if he could type up a report in Microsoft Word (seriously, I couldn't make this stuff up). I've written many times here about Carbonite and how much I love its unlimited online backup storage. I have helped dozens of clients install Carbonite and I myself have Carbonite installed on three of my computers. Sure, it's great to have everything backed up, but the backup is useless if it can't be restored properly when the need arises. Ask and you shall receive The need arose for me when one of my computers… Continue reading...

Earlier this month, I posted an article on the Noobie web site talking about Firefox as an alternative to the little blue "e". The little blue "e", as it is often referred to by noobies, is the Internet Explorer browser by Microsoft. The purpose of the article was to let noobies know there are other choices, some would argue even better choices, than just using the free browser that comes installed on your computer. The article also mentioned a few other browsers such as Safari, Opera and Google's Chrome. After posting the article on the web site I realized that… Continue reading...

It finally happened. My wife and I purchased an iPod for our son for his birthday. Not completely unusual except our son just turned six. I know, I know, there are a lot of you reading this right now thinking that Noobie Jr. is spoiled rotten and too young to be responsible with an iPod but before you judge, listen to our reasoning. Simply put, our son has the gift of music in him. Rhythm just comes naturally to him. He sings along to every song he hears on the radio and has the lyrics memorized after only a couple… Continue reading...
