Q: Apple is talking about DRM-free music. What is DRM? A: DRM stands for digital rights management. Simply put, it is the technology that has prevented you from purchasing a song on iTunes and then distributing the purchased song to your friends. Despite the wild success of iPods and iTunes, Apple has taken a lot of heat for including digital rights management with its songs. The reason is that many people want to play songs purchased from iTunes on MP3 players other than iPods. With the new DRM-free music offered by Apple, users can do just that. There is no… Continue reading...

Q: What is the difference between Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center? A: At first glance, both Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center appear to do the same thing. Both can catalog and play your music, either stored on your hard drive or from a CD, and both allow you to watch DVDs in full screen mode. The real difference is that Windows Media Player is a software program for your computer while Windows Media Center was designed to be married to your television. In the previous version of Internet Explorer, your Internet favorites were all listed underneath a menu item appropriately named “Favorites”. As I’m sure you’ve already noticed there are no traditional menu items in the new version of Internet Explorer. Rest assured, however, that your favorites are still intact. Look for a gold star graphic located at the left of your Internet browser near the top of the window. A simple click… Continue reading...

Q: I am going on vacation next week and want to take my laptop with me. How do I use the wireless part of my laptop to check my email from somewhere like Starbucks? A: As much as I’d love to answer your question by reminding you that you are on vacation and that you should be relaxing and not checking your email, I can’t because I’m guilty as charged when it comes to taking my laptop on vacation with me. In fact, I once set my fantasy football lineup from my hotel room in Maui but I’ll have to… Continue reading...
