Q: When I do a short movie (from a baseball game) on the 3 1/2 disk, can I download and edit it in Movie Maker 2? When I say edit I mean take and move out just the parts I want. I am sure I can but it helps to have someone else tell me it can be done. A: Without knowing what type of camera you have I am going to assume it has the capability to download the video to your computer either through a USB cable, a firewire cable or by piping the video straight in to… Continue reading...

Q: I have an older IBM laptop model #385cd which has not been used for a while. I recently got it out to use it and it had error codes 161 and 163 on it (problem with the CMOS). Will a startup disk fix this problem? What are my options? A: First, let me tell you that C-M-O-S, pronounced “see-moss”, stands for complementary metal oxide semiconductor. But don’t worry, noobies aren’t expected to remember that. Q: Somebody sent me an email attachment and, after I opened it, I made some changes to the document. But when I looked in my My Documents folder, the file wasn’t there. The reason you can’t find the file in your My Documents folder is because it’s not there. When you receive a file as an email attachment your computer stores the file in a temporary… Continue reading...

Q: I did something in Outlook and now I have to double-click every email to read it which opens the email in a new window. How do I get back to only having to click once on the email? A: What you are describing is referred to as the Reading Pane in Outlook. It allows you to single click an email in the Inbox which immediately shows you the contents of the email either to the right or the bottom of the Inbox. With the Reading Pane turned off, you have to double-click each email which, as you described, opens… Continue reading...

Q: Should the following be popping up on my computer and do I need to do something about it? Every time I turn on my computer I get this message “The procedure entry point Get Process Image File NameW could not be located in the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL.” A: A wise techie once told me, “Give a noobie an answer, make him happy for a day. Teach a noobie to find the answer on his own, make him happy for life.” Given that nugget of wisdom, I am going to answer your question by first telling you what I… Continue reading...
