I read an article on the IndyChannel.com web site regarding new parking meters being installed on some of the Indianapolis streets. What’s the big deal about new meters? Well, they accept debit and credit cards for starters. I think this is a great move as I am always the one scrounging around my car for loose change to fill the parking meter. I think noobies, however, may be slightly more hesitant to adopt this new technology. I say that because the new meters aren’t necessarily tied one to one with a parking spot. In some case, there is one meter… Continue reading...

Recently, someone asked me to provide a link to USB headsets that can be used for voice over Internet services such as Skype or the new Windows Live Messenger. I’ll start with the one I use. You can find it here at Amazon.com. I think the headset has exceptional quality and is a breeze to use. Just plug it in to one of the open USB ports on your computer or notebook and you’re good to go. I do have one problem though using the headset but it has nothing to do with the headset itself. Filed under Telephone and VOIP The other day I received an e-mail solicitation from NetZero for a private phone number. The idea intrigued me and so did the price (nada, nothing) so I decided to give it a try. The premise of the private phone is to have a phone number that is always answered by voice mail. You can be alerted by e-mail or have a text message sent… Continue reading...

Today I installed the new Windows Live Messenger. It promises to have better voice calling. A few months ago, I tried using the old Windows Messenger to have a voice conversation with my father. I was unimpressed with the sound quality. I decided to try Skype instead. Since my father didn’t have Skype and walked him through the installation as well. A few minutes later we both strapped on our USB headsets and gave it a try. The difference was night and day. The Skype quality was amazing. I was instantly hooked. And to top it off, Skype has given… Continue reading...

A new line of shoes dubbed Nike+. The shoes contain a built-in pocket beneath the insole on the left shoe where you can place a wireless transmitter (sold as the Nike + iPod Sport Kit). Add a wireless receiver (also part of the kit) that attaches to your iPod Nano and you’ve got yourself an iPod personal trainer. Once everything is hooked up properly, you can start running and the iPod will deliver workout-based voice feedback along with music specifically designed for your workout. Your iPod will also show the distance you have run, the pace you are running along… Continue reading...
