And I thought picking up the phone to order Pizza Hut was easy
Who would have thought that technology could improve pizza delivery? Well, I'm a believer now.
Last Friday night, things got a little hectic around the house and before we knew it, it was time for dinner and we had no dinner plans. Like any good dad would do in this situation, I came to the rescue with a little help from Pizza Hut and my wallet. I was about to pick up the phone to call when I remembered that Pizza Hut has online ordering now. So I decided to give it a try.
Ordering the pizza online was a breeze. I was impressed how easy it was to specify what toppings I wanted and where I wanted them. Pepperoni on the left half, sausage on the right half. And I did this by using easy to understand pictures that showed me where the toppings would go. I even was able to put special instructions for Pizza Hut to cut the pizza into squares. Impressive.
Small glitch with my credit card
I did run into a little glitch when entering my credit card information. I selected Visa but put in my MasterCard number. The web site caught the error but wouldn't let me just switch the Visa setting over to MasterCard. It just kept telling me there was something wrong with the credit card number. Being a techie though, I knew how to beat the system. I switched the credit card over to American Express, entered '1234' for the credit card number, let it error one more time, then entered all of my correct information a second time. Worked like a charm.
Despite the credit card glitch, the overall experience was great. My pizza and breadsticks showed up exactly as I ordered them and within a few minutes of the estimated delivery time the web site provided after I submitted my order.
When you talk about your next order, that's great marketing
What I'm really looking forward to, however, is the next order I place from Pizza Hut. I'll have several choices. I can just tell Pizza Hut to order the same order I ordered last time without having to enter all of the details again. Or I can use my cell phone and text message my order in. That's right, text message. When I completed my last order online, Pizza Hut gave me the option to create a short word to reference the entire order. I chose "HALFPEP" so the next time I want to order a medium, thin n' crispy, half pepperoni, half sausage pizza with a side order of breadsticks and cheese sauce, all I need to do is text the word "HALFPEP" to Pizza Hut and my order will be on its way.
Hats off to Pizza Hut for not only integrating new technology into their business, but for making it easy to use as well.
