39 dollars and 75 since on jim 20 fifth
I've had my ups and downs with the Jott service but I still continue to use it because it's just so darn handy when I need to remind myself of something when I'm away from my office.
But when I get jotts like this one, I question my continued use of their service.
Here's what I said: "39 dollars and 75 cents on the Discover card at Speedway on June 25th"
I jotted this because I had just filled up the car with gas and didn't get a receipt.
Here's what was waiting for me from Jott in my email when I got home: "3 9 dollars and 7 5 since on the discover card at speed way on jim 20 fifth."
Now, is it just me, or could someone at Jott have taken the extra two seconds to realize I was giving a dollar amount and transcribe it as "$39.75?" I would have even settled for "39 dollars and 75 cents", written out just like I spoke it. But "7 5 since?" Where's the logic in that?
And do I speak so poorly that the transcriber couldn't deduce that "jim 20 fifth" should have been "June 25th?"
C'mon Jott, where's the quality control?

That’s why when Jott became a pay service, I didn’t sign up. I must not speak very clearly, because none of my messages came out right.

@Michelle: That’s why I am so befuddled on this one. Even if I wasn’t speaking clearly, wouldn’t you think they could deduce that I was giving a dollar amount and a date? I think the transcribers just type exactly what they hear the first time through, with zero regard to whether or not it makes sense. They are probably paid per message and don’t give a hoot whether or not what they are typing makes any sense.

Patric, supposedly Google voice will have a voice-to-written message service.? I hope so, I loved Jott but couldn’t justify the jump to pay.

@Joe: I know Google Voice will transcribe your voice mails into text-based emails but I was unaware you could just leave yourself a note as well. Or maybe you just leave yourself a voice mail?!?

I always just assumed that Jott was voice to text recognition and that it got it wrong.

@Brian: Not less they changed their model. It’s supposed to be humans doing the transcription. I’ve often been tempted to jott something like “Hey, whoever is transcribing this, just tell me your favorite color instead of transcribing this message.”
