IMAP
IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol. The protocol is used between mail clients (the software you use to check your email) and mail servers (the computers that store your email) to negotiate the sending and receiving of email. IMAP is often seen listed as IMAP4 which represents version 4 of the protocol.
The IMAP protocol is similar to the POP protocol except that with IMAP, the mail store (all historical messages) is kept on the server allowing several clients to access the same set of email messages.
