Definition:

A partition is a section of a hard drive created by subdividing the total available storage space on the hard drive. Each partition is assigned its own drive letter giving the illusion that there are multiple drives on the computer.

Very similar to a USB flash drive, solid state drives offer an alternative means to store data. Traditionally computers store data on a hard drive, which has a number of mechanical, moving parts inside of it. These moving parts are prone to fail, eventually leading to a hard drive crash. Solid state drives do not contain moving parts which means they are generally considered more reliable. They also use less power and allow you to access the data stroed on them faster than a traditional magnetic hard drive.
