Definition:

A megabyte (MB) describes how much information can be stored on a device. Although the actual numbers are slightly higher, it is easiest to think of 1 megabyte as 1,000 kilobytes.

For reference, a digital picture typically takes about 3-6 megabytes (3 MB - 6 MB) of storage space.
